Turn off auto-advance on choice questions
Updated today
Turn off Auto-advance in your form's Settings when you want respondents to pick an answer, review it, and click the button themselves to move on. Auto-advance is on by default, which moves respondents to the next question the moment they pick an option.
Which questions auto-advance
Auto-advance only affects question types where the answer is a single pick:
Single Select
Dropdown
Opinion Scale
Star Rating
NPS
Scheduler
Every other question type, and every Multi-Question Page, always waits for the respondent to click the button.
Turn auto-advance off
The setting applies to the whole form and takes effect on the published form right away, so you do not need to publish again.
Open your form in the builder.
Click Settings in the top navigation.
Switch off Auto-advance.
What respondents see
With auto-advance off, picking an option highlights it and the form stays on that question until the respondent clicks the button. The button shows the question's own button text if you set one, and Next if you did not. On the last question the button still says Submit.
When to turn it off
Survey scales: let people reconsider a rating before it is locked in.
Quizzes and assessments: avoid accidental answers from a mis-tap on a phone.
Longer, considered forms: keep the pace in the respondent's hands.
The setting is per form, not per question. To make only a few questions wait for a click, keep auto-advance on and place those questions inside a Multi-Question Page, which never auto-advances.
