Create your first form with AI
Updated yesterday
Describe the form you want in plain language and Youform's AI form assistant builds a first draft you can preview and accept. The flow starts from the New Form modal on your dashboard and finishes when you accept the generated proposal in the builder's AI editor.
You need a laptop or desktop computer. The form builder is not available on mobile, so the AI creation flow can't be completed from a phone.
Generate your first form
You create the form by describing it once in the dashboard modal; the builder carries that prompt into the AI editor and sends it automatically.
On your dashboard, click New Form.
In the Describe your form field, type what you want to build (up to 700 characters), or pick a suggestion such as Customer feedback survey, Job application form, or Event RSVP.
Click Build it. The modal closes, a blank form is created, and the builder opens the AI editor with your prompt already sent.
Wait for the proposal to appear in the AI editor, then review it.
You can submit the dashboard prompt with Meta+Enter or Ctrl+Enter. The Build it button stays disabled until you enter a non-empty prompt.
Review the proposal
Your live form stays untouched until you accept, so you can inspect the proposal freely. The AI editor shows Your form is untouched until you accept.
The editor has two tabs for reviewing the result:
Preview renders the proposed form, with desktop and mobile preview options and a Restart form control.
Questions lists the proposed blocks in order, marking new blocks as New, required questions with *, the final block as Ending, and any block with logic as This question has logic.
A proposal can include more than questions β it may also update logic, design, and settings.
Refine with follow-up prompts
To change the proposal, send another message in the How can I help you? field instead of editing the proposal directly. Each follow-up request refines the active proposal, and you can keep sending messages until you're happy with it.
Accept or reject the changes
Once you're satisfied, accept the proposal to apply it to your form; reject it to keep your form as it was.
Click Accept changes to apply the proposal to the live draft, or Reject to discard it. The editor closes either way.
If you close the editor while a proposal is open, confirm with Discard changes to reject the proposal or Keep editing to return to it.
If you manually changed the form after the proposal was created, acceptance is refused and your manual edits are kept. Re-run the AI request against the current form instead.
AI limits and errors
These limits apply to the AI form assistant and are worth knowing before you start.
The dashboard prompt is limited to 700 characters.
Follow-up chat messages are limited to 4,000 characters.
Free organizations get 30 AI turns per month by default; Pro and higher get 500 per month. When the limit is reached, the editor tells you the monthly AI assistant limit has been reached for your organization.
Only one AI turn can run against a form at a time. If the AI is already working on the form, wait for it to finish before sending another request or accepting.
If a request fails because of a network problem, timeout, or cancellation, the editor tells you the changes may still complete β check your form before retrying.
After you accept the proposal, you can edit any block manually in the builder, add logic, or adjust the design just like a form you built from scratch.
